A little about Cathy…
Upon completion of a Bachelor of Education, Farwell taught children with special needs for the Waterloo County Board of Education. She left teaching to become a full-time mother and began taking community art courses in drawing, painting, fiber arts and clay. A decision to seriously pursue art led to enrolment as a mature student in the Fine Arts program at the University of Waterloo in 1993 where Farwell received numerous awards for artistic merit and academic excellence.
The artist lives in Waterloo with her family and and has a working studio an old factory in downtown Kitchener. Locally Farwell’s work has been shown at Cambridge Centre for the Arts, Rotunda Gallery in Kitchener City Hall, Homer Watson House & Gallery, the BOX Art Show & Sale annually from 2009-2013, Krajewski Gallery, WalterFedy, the Registry Theatre, Harbinger Gallery, Globe Studios, Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery, Gallery 96, Waterloo City Atrium, Walper Terrace Hotel and Eldon Gallery. Farwell was a featured artist in Roger’s TV Studio 20 program which premiered in January 2014, and in the Grand Magazine November- December 2013 issue.
Promotion of the visual arts and artists in Waterloo Region is extremely important to this artist. Farwell is the founder of the award winning BOX Art Show & Sale, and was the general organizer of the annual November show from 2009 to 2014 and other year round activities which has assisted over 100 local visual artists since 2009. Farwell also founded the Artists Crit Group, has designed a unique ‘Art in the Workplace’ program for WalterFedy and has served as an art curator, juror, donor and speaker, among other volunteer community art activities.
